5Primarily a business projector, this is a great value...
By Bron
Summary: Compact and light weight, this is aimed squarely at the traveling business person who needs to make presentations while traveling, but it is also a great and handy general purpose projector if you can accept a few limitations in exchange for the low price.Pros: Very compact, low price, excellent image quality, good color, good build quality, easy to use, good remoteCons: No HDMI input, lower resolution by today's HD standards (but fine for intended use), remote not backlitThe high lumens means this can be used in a room with a fair amount of ambient light. The 800x600 resolution and 4:3 aspect ratio are fine for presenting and also fine for DVD's and many video formats. It's not "HD" but it's higher than standard DVD video (640x480) and fine for streaming videos, DivX, home videos, photos, and similar uses. You get Epson build quality and reliability, long bulb life, good out of the box color, instant on/off, USB instant play (for photos, presentations, and PC Display, but not suitable for video), and VGA (good for PC Video and general display purposes). You get vertical (but not Horizontal, that's reserved for the more expensive 315 models) image adjust and lots of tweaking options (most of which you won't need). This unit is very quick and easy to set-up and use, and quick to shutdown and pack up as well.I used the VGA input to connect my laptop to the projector, everything worked fine and was quick and easy to setup. Projector detected the video signal and the auto config worked as expected. Laptop switched screen resolution to match projector's 800x600 rez (I tried other resolutions as well, all worked fine). I projected an 84" (diagonal) image using ECO mode (lower power/brightness, less noise, longer lamp life) and left the auto iris on (better blacks). I did not need to make any adjustments to color, everything looked good to me.The image quality is excellent for the price. For business purposes, it's very good. For home media, it's acceptable and, at this price, very decent. The blacks aren't "inky," but the image is bright and colorful. Also a good choice for gaming via the VGA connection. There's no HDMI at this price, not an issue for business uses, but it means you'll have to use component output to the VGA input connector via a special cable (not included) for best quality DVD/Movie videos. No USB cable is included, either, which is a bit lame in my opinion, but, hey, look at the price!Verdict: The basic idea here was to deliver a good quality, budget projector that features Epson's key image and build quality, and basic features, at the lowest cost possible, I believe Epson has hit the target and that these projectors will be quite popular. I've raised my initial 4 star rating to 5 stars based on my tests and performance vs. cost (i.e. bang for the buck).----------------------------------2011-11-26 Update: Photos and Art images == these looked very good to excellent. Used an 84" image and there was plenty of detail, very bright, fairly sharp, wonderful color fidelity, and overall great image quality. Displayed via laptop using VGA, but you could also use the USB connection for this. I'm just more used to using VGA, so that's my preference.2011-11-27 Update: Did some limited testing to see how this unit would work with streaming video for casual movie watching (e.g. Netflix, Amazon Instant video, etc.).Image quality was very acceptable. Blacks were decent, things that were black, looked black. This is no match for a good home theatre unit, no inky blacks and "pop" here, but a very decent and eminently watchable image. Would be great for sports, I'm guessing. I watched some Netflix films and they looked very good, DVD quality plus/minus depending on source. The Amazon video I watched (Firefly non-HD) was a bit lower in quality, but still acceptable. Some native video (i.e. playing from laptop hard drive) looked great, again near or at DVD quality, YouTube videos were pixellated due to their low resolution, but the higher rez looked OK. (On an 84" image, you're going to notice blocking and pixellation w/YouTube and other lower quality sources, so keep that in mind.) I used blutooth speakers or headphones for audio - did not bother with projector audio. All in all, it was fun and I was pretty pleased with the results. I think many would be perfectly happy with this projector for casual movie/video use (just don't compare it to a moderate to high-end HT unit). The wonderful HBE (Human Brain Effect) takes over after awhile and you don't really notice any image quality issues. Perfectly enjoyable and very inexpensive by comparison. Also very easy to set-up and put-away. I projected the image on my light beige wall and even that looked pretty good. The auto iris does click a bit occasionally (as w/most), but you can turn it off if this bothers you. It improves the blacks a little bit, noticeable, but not a dramatic change. If you don't get too hung up on the lower resolution, moderate screen door effect (never bothers me at all), you'll have a lot of fun. And, at current prices, this is hard to beat in terms of fun/dollars spent.

4Nice projector for regular use
By C. Ang
Overall, this is an above average projector. The resolution on this projector is not the best, but it gets the job done. I connected it to my iMac and I had to fiddle around with the monitor resolution to get a better video size out of the projector. Low-quality You Tube videos were of decent quality when projected, but 380p or higher Hulu videos were of above average quality. You can also get audio to come out of the projector, which is an added bonus, but the sound quality isn't that much better than an ordinary computer speaker.Word processing and other business applications may be hard to view if the monitor resolution is high. However, fiddling around with the monitor resolution allows you to get to a size that is comfortable enough for you to read. The installation was okay. I encountered some issues getting the projector to run using the USB Type B connector, which was the only option on my iMac. In addition, a USB Type B cord was also not included in my box. Fortunately, I had one lying around from an old printer. A VGA cord was the only included connector in the box although there are a couple of other connection options available. Once I fixed this installation issue by uninstalling and reinstalling the USB Installer, everything else was a breeze. The projector also comes with a remote control that allows you to control the projector, including the audio volume. In addition, the remote control can also be used as a wireless pointer, which is good for presentations. The size of the projector is pretty small, which makes it easy to lug around and does not take up a lot of space on the desk. As with all projectors, it gets pretty hot when sitting beside it, but there's not much you can do about that. If you really want to project sharper images or want a higher resolution when presenting or editing files, you should consider a different projector. However, if you are looking for a decent projector that will get the job done without having to spend a ton of money, this may be a good alternative.

5I Wholeheartedly Recommend this Projector!
By Bohdi Sanders, Ph.D.
The Epson VS series VS21 3LCD Business Projector is a great, compact projector that is perfect for the technically challenged. I grabbed the machine out of the box, hooked up the chords in the only spots they would connect into and in less than eight minutes, I was enjoying my favorite movie on the wall with life-size actors. This machine is compact enough to take on business trips and use as a presentation tool without the inconvenience of a larger , bulkier machine. Anybody who has stood in front of an audience with their fingers crossed in hopes that the technology works "this time," will be pleased with the ease and simplicity of the Epson. This projector is much better than what I had hoped. It is lightweight and very portable. It is extremely easy to adjust with just a click of the release button that locks the foot position. The buttons on top of the machine are actually easier to use and understand than the average television remote, which by the way, it does come with a great remote control also! It is easy to focus and also comes with an user's guide on CD so you don't have to carry around the user's manual if you don't want to. This is a wonderful product!!I recommend this machine wholeheartedly. It is absolutely great!! 5 Stars!

5Good sound quality
By logerot
So far so good! I especially love the sound on this TV. I had some bad experience in the past with flat screens where the volume had to be turned up super high to be able to hear dialogues in movies while the soundtrack was deafening. This is not the case with this one! The image quality does not seem to be the best but it's still very ok for me.

4Good System -- No Regrets
By Galen
I'm amazed that more people haven't given this set a chance, though I'll admit that I was a bit leery to take the plunge myself, given the lack of available reviews. Also, the generic complaints about the wireless rear speakers did have me concerned.First, let me comment on the wireless rear speakers: they work as advertised. I don't know if I just got lucky, the complainers were unlucky, or if my set is just waiting to die (I've only been able to watch a couple movies with it so far), but I've not had any issues with them thus far. There isn't any discernible delay with the wireless processing and the speakers sound pretty convincing. The additional features of the set are quite nice, especially the Bluetooth connectivity, and the remote is fairly intuitive with a good menu-driven UI. No complaints there, though it would be nice if the set offered more granular control of the audio settings. The set works well with my wireless router and offers a number of internet services. Honestly, though, I've primarily used the services offered by my Vizio (E3D420VX) TV, if only for the fact that the remote for my TV includes a qwerty keyboard on the back, making searching much easier. Speaking of the TV, you'll probably need to use the optical audio out as, though the LG unit does offer ARC for HDMI, my TV does not; this probably applies to several TVs.Concerning the dimensions of the set, that is something of which to be mindful as, though the main unit isn't very tall, it is quite wide (~17.5 in.) and fairly deep (~12 in.). It just barely fits into the TV stand that I have. Also, you'll want some additional free space behind and above the unit as it does use an exhaust fan (the fan seems to run quietly as I haven't heard it yet). A fan is used on the wireless rear receiver as well, though it also seems to run quietly. The speakers are about a foot tall and, unfortunately for cheaper mounting stands, the mounting bracket is located about 7 in. from the base. I wasn't convinced that the curve for most of the universal mounts that I've seen would accommodate these speakers, so I just have them resting on furniture and shelves (there are rubberized footings on each speaker, so I haven't heard any vibration issues). Also, for those who are interested, the speakers do not have any ducts. Now for the important consideration: sound. Let me state upfront that these are not audiophile-quality speakers; you'll definitely know that you're listening to a HTIB set. That said, I've been pretty pleased with the set thus far. The speakers don't really sound boxy and, for 2.1 listening with music, they handle themselves pretty well. As a comparison, I'd probably rate them just under a comparable (and much more expensive) Bose set. I'll admit that the set sounds a bit muddled for my taste, but that could be because I'm basically just running out of the box at this point, and haven't yet been able to tune the system to my living room. The subwoofer is punchy, but doesn't seem to have an ideal crossover setting as sometimes it is either a bit underpowered or too noticeable (this could have to do with room placement - my room isn't exactly acoustically ideal). Unfortunately, it doesn't look like I can really exert much control except through a fairly coarse equalizer, though I might (hopefully) be wrong.Regarding the 5.1, excuse me, I mean 9.1, performance, I'm left a tad disappointed. For sounds like gunshots, breaking glass, and other things non-musical, the rear speakers are a joy to listen to; however, when they start playing music, they seem to overpower the front speakers and, since they cannot take advantage of the relatively distant subwoofer as effectively as the front speakers, this is somewhat problematic. Ultimately, they just sound a little harsh when compared to the front speakers. Let me reiterate, though, that I haven't yet had time to delve into all of the settings, and I should also note that the only movies I've watched thus far have been on DVD - Blu-ray movies might fare better. It could also be that the encoding on the movie itself just isn't ideal for my setup... after all, the last movie I watched, Inception, did seem to present the most problems with regard to the soundtrack. This is reinforced by my experience listening to music using 5.1 under one of the sound effect settings, Bass Blast, whereby the rear speakers did not seem nearly as overpowering (and actually, produced a sound that was just a notch under the 2.1 musical setting). The center channel sounds reasonably good - not great - and, overall, handles dialog convincingly. I haven't been especially impressed with its handling of vocals compared to just a standard 2.1 setting, when listening to music, though. As I mentioned before, the subwoofer doesn't meld perfectly with the other speakers and can be overpowering at times, but this could also be a placement issue or some other correctable issue - I really just need to experiment some more.As far as I can tell, the whole 3D 9.1 sound thing is a gimmick, but I knew that going in, and it should be fairly obvious as there are not any 9.1 encodings out there for Blu-ray at this point. Again, I can't say that I've spent enough time with enough variation in media to truly make a judgment on this point, but I very much doubt I'll change my mind. Considering that the 3D sound was not really a selling point for me, that's not a problem. The only significant concern that I have with this set is with regard to how specific all of the components are. The set presumes the use of a wireless rear receiver (there aren't any rear speaker ports on the main unit and, even if there were, it probably wouldn't be able to power them). Also, all of the speaker wire inputs are proprietary so, unless you want to splice standard cables with the connectors from the included cables, you're stuck with what is supplied, though what they supply is certainly ample for my requirements. Also, the convenience of having everything integrated into one main unit would also be problematic if it ever dies. However, as long as the amplifier itself doesn't die, I suppose that it is somewhat flexible in that regard as it does offer 2 HDMI inputs (none of which I'm using, at this point).Overall, this is a solid system that I'm glad to have purchased. I found it for $500, but $600 isn't a bad price either, especially if you're just starting without any Blu-ray player or anything, like I was. It sounds good, offers very convenient features (I love playing music via Bluetooth with my phone, for example), and the wireless rear speakers really help in removing clutter without requiring running wire through the ceiling or walls.

3Not all that great
By bandi13
We bought this system for our home theater system. The sound is good out of the speakers. There are lots of software updates that are easy to apply. Sometimes there is a delay between the main unit and the bluetooth speaker system. I believe a software update fixed this problem. My biggest issue with this is the atrocity of the wireless interface. I've moved my router to directly above the system and it still skips when playing movies through the internet. Using my Nintendo Wii to play the same content via the same router worked flawlessly. The processor is a bit under-powered at times. The application 'store' takes a long time to load and the apps on there are pretty much useless. It's tempting to try to find some way to get open source firmware on this and leave LG's slow software behind.

4Decent system
By mactep
I've had this one for a month now. The system is not bad and works well with my LG TV via SimpleLink. The sound coming from front is very good. However, the sound from back speakers sometimes give out a feedback.I noticed feedback mostly on old movies. New blueray flicks don't give feedback.Overall, lots of great options. Bluetooth worked good with my Galaxy S 2 but you cannot control it from the player - must use phone.Internet apps like Netflix work well. Overall, a decent product but due to feedback lost one star.P.S. Wireless speakers work well. I was worried about them reading all reviews but they work and can be adjusted via software to provide distance, loudness, etc...

4Low price leader
By Recursive
At least for now this TV seems like the low price leader among new 2009 52" sets. I am very happy with my purchase after 2 weeks of ownership. I am watching it without any custom tweaking at all and blu-ray looks great, and ATSC digital broadcast reception via a RCA ANT1500 Large Multi-Directional Digital Flat Passive Antenna (White) is excellent too.I bought this sight unseen because the price was right and it seemed to have the important stuff and not the frills, which was just what I wanted. Also previous models of the Aquos line got decent reviews. This is my first large LCD so I don't have much to compare with. The features seem to be just a somewhat more mature version of last years features which is great if you don't want the dubious advantages (and expense) of things like 240hz mode, LED backlighting or ultra-thin screen. The built-in sound is decent with hidden, downward pointing speakers and I use it for live TV (ie News and Sports) but for movies I have it connected to an AV surround amp.Looks great mounted on the wall (nicer than on the stand).Pros: - 10-bit screen - non-glare screen I have it next to large window and although you can certainly see the light reflected, it is a kind of matte look not a sharp reflection. And the brightness of the screen can overcome whatever reflection there is except in dark scenes. - 120hz mode I really don't see a lot of difference so I tend to leave things in the regular movie mode, even for baseball - good response time subjective, nothing to compare - good black subjective, nothing to compare - plenty of connections - can custom label the on-screen menu inputs well, it's important to me :)Cons: - no PIP I don't care - no DLNA/Internet connectivity I'm connected to a MediaPC so this would be redundant except for firmware upgrades which have to be done via a USB port (not sure if end user can do that) - the USB port is good only for service, not, for example, loading home pictures - again with a MediaPC it's not needed. The delivery via Amazon/CEVA was by a couple of very nice guys who brought it in, unpacked it, put it on the stand (which I later removed) and turned it on, which was exactly what I wanted and expected. No dead pixels. 15 month warranty (12 month plus 3 more for registering online) which I hope I don't have to use.

5Excellent TV for the price!
By Scott M. Tingley
Just received this TV yesterday and had it up and running in no time at all. I have successfully connected my Cox HD-DVR, Roku (Netflix device), and Pioneer DVD player (1080p upconvert) to the TV...all with new HDMI cables. Visually this TV looks great, I like the piano black finish and the slight champagne gradiant at the bottom...will look even better once we get it up on our wall I think (wife likes the look too).Upon first powering it up I was greeted with a few simple setup questions all laid out nicely on a very easy to read menu system. Once done I was up and running on our Cox HD-DVR. I went to a basketball game that was on and being broadcast in 1080i. Wow, simply wow. Amazing picture quality...and I hadn't even tweaked the settings yet. After watching a few more channels I switched over to my son's Cars (Pixar movie) DVD to check out the 1080p upconvert and the 120Hz dejudder capabilities. I had never really been able to detect the difference of this in big stores, but wow in the Cars movie at home it was very evident and actually looked really cool. The animation was sooo much smoother, it took a little getting used to but now I'm just amazed at it. Some might not like it, but I think most will.SD channels actually look suprsingly ok. Was expecting them to look like total crap on this size TV, but they dont.Later in the evening I started to get down to adjusting the video settings to get the blacks a litter better and the color to be just right (for my eyes anyway). Took about 30-40 mins but I think I have everything set the way I like it, and it looks even better than the initial settings. Blacks are VERY good. For $1468 shipped, this is an amazing TV. Sure it doesn't have some of the newest bells and whistles...but for some of us who don't have a need for those or the added cost, its nice (ie, ethernet port, USB port, 240Hz, etc). There are only 2 little downsides I have come across:1) The sound is only so-so, but that was to be expected...most TVs just aren't spectacular. The sound is very clear, and voices are easy to hear/understand...but just no bass at all. So movies seem a little drab in the sound department. We will be adding a sound bar soon.2) The viewing angle could be a little better I think. The image gets a little washed as you move to the sides of the TV. I was able to minimize some of it by tweaking the backlight level and contrast/brightness. But still could be better. The stand on this unit swivels though, so we just angle it towards the couch or chairs we will be in and the problem is solved.

4Calibration Settings + Tips/Tricks
By April King
Since I have owned this TV for a few months now, I thought it would be helpful to share a few tips and tricks I have learned:PROBLEM: INCOMPATIBLE AUDIO SIGNALAll my A/V devices (360, PS3, Wii, Samsung DTB-H260F) were connected to my Onkyo TX-SR607 receiver with HDMI, which was set to output to my Sharp Aquos LC-52E77U. And, although the receiver was set to "Audio TV Out" off (and even with it on), the TV kept popping up this error:"Incompatible audio signal has been received, please check the output signal."It only pops up for a few seconds, and only when I would switch devices or resolution or whatever. Still, pretty annoying. Connecting the devices directly to the TV via HDMI caused the same error - the only time it didn't happen is when there was 2ch 44.1/48Khz PCM involved.Unfortunately, unlike every other TV I have ever owned, the Sharp doesn't have a menu option to disable audio. Muting didn't help, either. The solution? Set the audio volume to 0. No more error!PROBLEM: NO DEVICE DETECTED (DVI -> HDMI)When I first got this TV, I plugged in my Mac Mini, using a DVI -> HDMI cable. After using it for a bit, the TV would stop recognizing that the Mac Mini was connected. It turns out that, whenever the Mac Mini would be rebooted or would go to sleep, the Sharp would refuse to recognize that it was connected anymore. The solution? Physically unplugging and plugging in the TV (not just pressing the power button), and disabling sleep on the Mac. I still have to do this unplugging dance occasionally - like for system updates - but not as often as when sleep was enabled. I guess that's the price you pay for a beautiful 1080p HDMI signal, as opposed to a letterboxed 1600x1200 VGA signal - the max this TV supports.CALIBRATION SETTINGSThis TV has some definite problems with blues in areas of high contrast. Here are the best settings I have found, in order of their appearance in the menus:OPC: OffBacklight: +6 (you can adjust up or down a smidge if need be)Contrast: +36Brightness: -6Color: +1Tint: +1Sharpness: -1CMS Hue/Saturation/Value: 0Color Temp.: Low (leave at Mid for color managed devices like Macs, or OTA TV)R Gain: +11G Gain: 0B Gain: -10Fine Motion Enhanced: Off (leave on for sports if you prefer)Active Contrast: OffGamma Adjustment: 0Film Mode: Off (I used Advanced(Low) for sports)Digital Noise Reduction: OffMonochrome: OffRange of OPC: +16 Max, -16 Min (it is off, anyways)

4great surround sound but, lacking one important feature
By Ivan
I had this home theater in a box for about a month so far and everything is great, 3D, built in wireless Blu ray player but lacking one important detail. The receiver have 0 Hdmi inputs so if your planning to connect more devices to use the surround sound then you will end up using Toslink cables. I am happy with my purchase and if this receiver had 2 or more Hdmi inputs then 5 stars across the board. If you want the rear wireless speakers to be wireless the Wireless transmitter are sold seperatly if that is a deal breaker or not. great sound, deep base. So far loving it despite the lack of Hdmi inputs.

4Everything In One
By Legnadibrom
All you need in one system, just connect it to a TV and you're all set for a great home theater experience. I use this with a 46 inch Samsung LCD TV that I purchased a few weeks before this system. Initially I chose the TV because it has DLNA media sharing capabilities so I can stream all my shows and movies from my computer in my bedroom out to my comfy recliner in the living room. Then I tried watching a DVD on that TV with an old Sony player from 2004 to not very good results. So I decided to upgrade to Blu-Ray and went with this all-in-one package. Without disappointment.I stayed in the same brand family mainly because the TV was really great, plus the DLNA feature that Samsung implements in their Smart-devices is the future of media sharing and Samsung seems to be one of the only big brands to embrace the technology. Samsung's Anynet feature is also a great reason for getting a TV and player within this family because it simplifies quality settings, amongst other things like turning on/off with each other. As far as all the good things go - the picture looks great, both DVDs and Blu-rays look awesome and after some tweaking with the sound settings I have a healthy dose of bass and clear mid and high range. The audio setup wizard worked well with the detection mic and you can then adjust distance and volume for each speaker as desired...I pumped the subwoofer all the way up. 5.1 sound from Blu-rays is satisfying and the "3D" sound set on HIGH recreates surround sound for downloaded TV shows and movies streaming from my computer through DLNA, as well as older DVDs with only stereo sound. I've sampled music/radio on the player and it sounds fantastic, especially with the built-in sound presets which can mimic sound halls/live venues/etc. and you can turn a song on the radio into something you'd be hearing in a club or a bar...but I tend to just use the player for videos.I didn't have any problems with the hookup of any speakers and the length of all wires was more than sufficient for my apartment-size living room. I tried the HDMI hookup with return audio so that I could still stream content to my TV and let the player handle the audio but I didn't get it to work right away, and having an optical cable handy I just plugged that in with perfect results, therefore never fiddling with any settings to get the return audio to work.A couple of cons about the player(but for the price and vs. the pros, these are very minor) are that the player does not handle MKV files, the container choice for most HD videos...which I find odd because my TV handles them without issues, and the two devices are from the same series. I was hoping there would be a firmware update for the player to correct this but so far nothing...so I just stream MKV files to the TV, using the player for the audio. Another oddity is that the player's on screen menu/browser for DLNA doesn't show as many files onscreen at one time as the TV, and the delay for scrolling/button pressing is a tad more for the player. One last thing about the difference between the player and the TV when it comes to DLNA sharing is that the TV takes advantage of those ABCD buttons on the remote and if you're resuming a previously-watched video it will instruct you to press one of those letters to resume where you left off(very convenient) while the player does not offer the option. Oh, and there's no headphone jack on the player so you can't chill out at 4am watching "Lethal Weapon" on Blu-ray without waking your neighbors. The remote is semi-universal in that you can control your Samsung TV with it if you choose to. I've all but abandoned the TV remote for the player's remote instead. A small quibble with the remote would be that the "source" button is at the top of the remote and it'd be much more comfortable if it were in the remote's mid-section. And also when you press "source" it cycles through whatever sources might be hooked up to the player, whether there's a connection or not, whereas the Samsung TV pops up a transparent window where you can then choose a source instead of cycling through...IMHO much better functionality on the latter. As far as the online content/features go I've used them maybe 6 times just to try them out or out of boredom more than anything. Yeah, it's kind of cool to watch youtube videos on a big TV in your living room but it's maybe 10 minutes of entertainment at best. I don't care much for facebook or any of the other "widgets" or "gadgets" or whatever they call them in their "app" store. I'm still waiting for a firmware update that includes a web browser, because then I think it'd be something that I might use a bit more than once a month out of bored curiosity. You also have to register for Samsung's SmartTV online thingie plus the actual apps themselves which deterred me from even trying anything like Netflix or Blockbuster online. Why bother signing up for something when you can just download it on your computer and stream it to your player?I'm very satisfied with this home theater entertainment system and I'd recommend it to anyone that wants a great-sounding basic system that includes pretty much everything you need at a budget price.

5All-in-One 3d Blue Ray Home Theater System
By 06ajtayl
This product is designed and functions very well! The look of the product is very black and glossy, giving a clean and modern feel. I bought this item for the HDMI Auido return Channel, which after a little messing around with works great!! One cable from the TV to the Reciever gives sound from stereo for all items hooked to the TV or visa versa. No clutter!! (Must use HDMI v1.4 plugs and cables in order to get ARC functionality, my bad). When hooked to a CEC, Anynet+, or compatible DNLA devise through HDMI this unit auto sync's all functions to TV, ie. put in a blue ray, tv turns itself on, turns to the correct input, and starts up the movie. Also, comes with an ipod dock which charges the Ipod, WHEN THE STEREO IS ON (be better if it charged all the time) but gives great control over sound thought IPod's controls OR through the TV, I like searching through songs on the TV through the Ipod better. Th touch controls are super cool and eliminate the look of buttons (kinda like a dishwasher with no buttons on the front) However, have accidently bumped up against controls and turn the unit on or off a few times. So, not so good if in the reach of small children, but should have a 3d blue ray player in the reach of children anyway. Paid $299.00 free shipping no tax through Amazon, cheapest anywhere. All other places $379.00 at best. I would buy again in a heart beat from amazon, customer service is A+. Really when they mean no hassle returns, they are for real.

5Excellent Quality, Extremely Functional, and Amazing Stylish HDTV
By Kyler Christensen
Whoah, I really did my research on this one (I always do when I make huge investments into things that I plan on owning for a long time) and I am not disappointed!!! For those that don't know, LED TVs are arguably considered the best class of HDTVs (including LCD and plasma along with all of their variants) and this particular model I feel is really the best in its class (considering all things: quality of picture, pricing, features, and, in my humble opinion, size - I really didn't need anything larger than about 40-something inches for my purposes).I'm going to go on a small side note: Some will argue that plasma has the best picture. However, LEDs have better picture at identical resolutions. I checked this model out on the floor at Best Buy along with two other (42") TVs that I was comparing, an LG LCD and a Panasonic plasma. The sales associate swore by plasma and couldn't even tell the obvious difference in contrast between the 42" and this model (the LED one was obviously better). I'm not going to patronize you on the pros and cons of each class of TV (although I could) but, all things considered, LED really is the best overall. Do your homework if you haven't.Anyways, I noticed that some people whined about: 1) the sound, 2) the remote, 3) screen glare, 4) light leakage, or 5) whatever dud/lemon of a TV they got. I'm going to address these points with rebuttals in the following bullet points:-1) In truth the sound is very decent (you're buying a stand-alone HDTV, what did you expect?) and most people may want to purchase a sound bar/system down the road. Plus there are multiple sound options that enhance and isolate individual parts of the sound that matter to you ("Clear Voice" is a good one sometimes).-2) Hey, it's a REMOTE! Come on, people! Seriously though, the remote is intuitive enough and has some cool features (the menus are very simple and a joy to navigate once you get the hang of everything), like button back-lighting that you can toggle on and off with one glow-in-the-dark button. Plus the buttons have a good feel and good travel to them.-3) Unless you keep the windows open and they're facing the TV, this is not really a huge issue at all - especially when the TV is actually ON!-4) Here's where I think that I will acknowledge some peoples' pouting and concern; on the upper and lower right and left corner portions of the screen, and even upper-center (where the light is sourced from), I did notice some faint circular light leakage/blooming spots when watching a movie at night. It is minor but they are there. However, this is only noticed when the following conditions are met: you're watching in a super widescreen letterbox-format picture, it's night-time or the house lights are off, and the movie scene is a really dark one. I'm not certain if this is normal of LEDs or not. Either way, it is very minor, can easily be ignored, and is definitely not worth taking my TV back for. I'm already too happy with it as you might guess.-5) Mine arrived in perfect condition. I recommend a free trial of Amazon Prime. You can get this TV with free standard shipping rates or $4 for overnight shipping in the continental US.-One last initial worry of mine that I wanted to insert into this review is concerning the bezel/frame style. the outer edge is surrounded with an additional clear edge that contains an even smaller and extremely subtle clear red edge. Aesthetics are an important thing for me so looking at this model in the store was a MUST. However, the red edge along with the clear edge was virtually unnoticeable in the store. When you do look closely and see it you will notice how stylish it all really is. The frame is ultra thin, black gloss, and sits on a mostly-glass base. the shaft of the base mount is clear glass so the TV kind of seems like it's floating. I think that that was what the designers were going for.Now on to some of the features that previous reviewers didn't touch on... This TV has really got you covered. There are a multitude of sound and video options in a very intuitive menu interface. I haven't utilized any of the Internet-accessing options yet. My main plan was to hook my laptop up to the HDMI port and do a lot with that. But here is where the TV really shines for me: the HDD USB port. If you have a USB flash drive/external hard drive then you can view photos, play music, and even watch movies straight off of it. Playing movies has no slow-down whatsoever. If you somehow acquire Blu-ray disc movie rips or whatever video file type/extension you have, chances are great that it will play them all with no problem. The TV has played almost every movie file type that I've thrown at it. I love the streamlined menu within the videos. You can't ask for anything better in this aspect. And HD videos all look glorious.Lastly, some people complain about the "soap opera" effect that HDTVs can suffer from. I believe other brands sometimes call this feature "Trumotion", but for this line of TVs Samsung refers to it as "Auto Motion Plus". Thankfully, you have the option to turn this feature off if you'd like or change it to one of five other settings.Well, I'm not sure what else to say.. I didn't need or want a 3D TV yet... But everyone that has come over to our place sees the screen resolution and picture quality and is always immediately impressed. I highly recommend this TV to anyone. At 40 inches, do yourself a favor and get it for the picture quality and unbeatable price for an LED class TV.EDIT: The one other draw for LED HDTVs is the extremely small off-chance for "burn in" if you view the same picture constantly without a change in picture. The manual warns something along the lines of being sure not to view the exact same picture for more than 5% of your total viewing time in any given week. Otherwise, it's a small chance (but possible) that you could get burn in on your TV.(Update as of 6/27/11): The picture quality has always been utterly exceptional and without comparison for this TV. However, I have a very keen eye and will still at times notice the light leaking issue during EXTRA widescreen videos where the light is on the top and bottom borders and is darkest. I think that I am going to continue hanging on to this TV, however, notwithstanding this one issue - although I am currently weighing the matter as it compares to the price and timing for this investment for me now. If I do contact Samsung, I would only want this same model again. Videophiles may just want to keep this light leakage issue in mind for their purchase.

5Auto Motion Plus - the price disparity
By K. Singhasiri
After owning this TV for exactly a month I've finally decided to write a review, you know, after the excitement wears off and what not. Actually I'm still pretty excited about it. My previous set was also a Samsung 26" LCD and upgrading to this one was worthwhile.Since this is a television, I'll comment about the picture first. Out of the box it's very good, after adjusting the settings a bit - excellent. The colors are very vibrant and no problems with viewing angles. I actually like my images to have a bit of contrast to them; I prefer black to be black and not grey. At first I was having a hard time trying to get it right, since my initial reaction was to reduce backlight and gamma, but crank up contrast and brightness. After a while, I finally figured out 'brightness' had the biggest effect. Around 30% was where it really kicks in, but it didn't occur to me to drop it that low. It's all about preference though, and this TV should have enough settings for anybody. Aside from contrast though, I don't see an insane amount of difference between this and a non-LED set... Something I must mention about the settings though, depending on which of the 4 picture presets you're on, certain selections like advanced video settings become unselectable for reasons unknown. Though I pretty much left that setting untouched. Despite that, I really like the fact that settings are saved independently across the 4 presets for EACH input source. So, for example, if you have 4 connections coming in, you can have a total of 16 presets - good stuff. I also tried the PC input through vga and found the picture to be very sharp. Colors are accurate though a bit strong and text is easily readable from a few feet out and this is coming from a practically blind gamer. The audio, I found to be pretty good. The bass isn't going to blow your neighbors away, and it's not going to replace any home theater system, but there is a very capable, customizable equalizer on board which should help a bit. Loudness for this set wasn't a problem for me.Now I must talk about the 120Hz Auto Motion Plus(AMP) dealy as it seems to be the main feature that drives up the cost from lower models. What AMP does for you is, well, readable in the product description, so I'll describe it. AMP made every thing move faster while maintaining picture detail. (more frames in the same amount of time = faster) So, to me, everything looked like either home movies or daytime soaps which, if you can picture them, tend to move faster than most television programs and movies. Despite the bit about daytime soaps, I generally watch movies and sports, and after a few dozen years of watching them in ~24 frames per second (a bit higher for sports), I found the added (double?) frames to seem unnatural. After a few days found myself turning the feature off completely even for sports. Though there's nothing wrong with the quality of the image presented per se, I'd just prefer to see a blue flash go by as opposed to Ironman's actual chest piece go by, for example. And it only really kicks in at what seems like certain intervals, so the inconsistency in framerate got to me as well. I did find a use for AMP while gaming. Everything moves at what seems like 60 fps even when the game is not natively known to. Though, again, it's not 100 percent consistent in high frames (more like 60-80) and certain, very fast moving, games, like racing, cause what seems like screen tearing at the edges. You probably won't notice it (AMP) on games that already run at 60fps, and also it won't work miracles for games with already poor and inconsistent framerates. Overall, it looks fantastic for games, as I didn't give it a second thought about leaving it on, but for everything else I finally decided not to.The main selling point for me was the Connectshare. I was thinking of purchasing a digital media player a while back, but here it's already built-in and it's a very capable one indeed. Though, there's too many to list here, the TV's e-manual actually lists suppurt for a dozen file types spanning several dozen video and audio codecs with bitrates as high as 30 Mbps for certain file types. It's played pretty much every thing I've thrown at it and handled any 'usb device' I've used so far, which includes NTFS formatted sata hard drives with external enclosure, no worries. Though once in a while the audio cuts in and out on my .vob straight rips, and I've yet to test files with very high bitrates since I feel the tradeoff for file size isn't worth it past 7-8 Mbps. Something I must mention about the media player is it does an admirable job of reducing video artifacting from down-conversion, however you're not able to zoom past the actual video while maintaining aspect ratio. In other words it won't crop the black horizontal bars for you on a 4:3 ratio video. You have to do it in the conversion. I found it strange since the option to zoom in is there for all the other video inputs. As for the Smart TV/Samsung App hub, I tried it briefly using the Youtube app under a wired connection(which stalled on the initial install). Videos streamed very quickly and it looked like the the app always plays the highest video quality. Most of the other apps never appealed to me so I found myself quickly deleting them off the TV but this was never a selling point for me anyways, just something to mess around with. As others have mentioned, navigating without a keyboard quickly became a chore. So, hopefully, somewhere along the line, Samsung will separately sell their qwerty remote that's included with their 7000 and up series of TVs otherwise this feature could fade fast. After all that though, I would definitely purchase this TV again if I had to (which I did - the 40" UN40D6000 series) especially at the $700 price-tag offered at the time (thanks to the wacky commodities exchange-like fluctuating price system here). Even though the LED aspect seems to do more for your eco concerns than picture quality and I seldom use the 120Hz Auto motion, I'd rather have more functionality than less. Also, I can afford it. However, for the casual viewer, those on a budget, or old-school movie-goer, 120Hz is overkill. I could go with the UN32D5500 32-Inch and still be happy. As always, see it for yourself.

The Samsung UN46D6000 is an excellent led HDTV set that is the best value priced alternative to a 3D model. In fact, the outstanding picture clarity and color of this LED set almost seems 3D at times and these are its most striking features. Other pluses are the light weight, thin profile and elegant overall design along with low power usage. Although, I would suggest that individual sound control features for bass, treble and balance would be a definite improvement.
