I own several Android devices, including the new Samsung Note 10.1 and Google Nexus 7. This Minix Neo 5 is easily as powerful as both of those.The device is small, stylish and hasn't got hot even after several hours of watching movies, listening to music, or playing video games. Speaking of which, even the more advanced games like Grand Theft Auto and Batman run very well on it. I installed XBMC (Xbox Media Center), and it runs as smoothly as it does on my PC for streaming live TV and video on demand. If you don't want to think for yourself, and prefer to have some company set things up for you, then you may want to buy the lower power Roku or Apple products instead. But if you can handle the simple task of installing whichever apps you are interested in (using the Google Play Store or manually), and would enjoy having the freedom that only a real computer OS can give you, then this is definitely the best choice I have found yet.My wireless mouse and keyboard both work on it without any configuration at all. For me, it was a true plug and play experience. I then hooked up the Neo x5 to my Google account, synced my data and apps, and my TV is now alerting me whenever new email arrives. It's fast, efficient, and already has an Android 4.1.1 update for it.Here are the simple instructions for updating (taken from the Chinese "GeekBuying" website):This firmware can upgrade your NEO X5 from Android 4.0 to Android 4.1.1, and it adds real 1080p output.Here is the firmware download link:sendspace (dotcom) /file/cisp01and here is the firmware update instruction:1.- Download the Firmware and unzip it2.- Turn off the X5 and plug in the attached mini USB cable to the OTG port and to PC3.- On the X5 on the back there is a small button called "RECOVER". Press down this button gently using a paper clip. (You should feel a distinct resistance.)4.- Switch on while holding the RECOVER button, and continue to hold the RECOVER button for about 5 to 7 seconds, then release it.5.- Windows will now try to install the driver, but it will fail. In the Device Manager you will be see the Neo x5 listedt as an unknown device. manually install the appropriate drivers from the "Driver" folder (zip you downloaded from above), depending on which operating system or 32/64 bit version.6.- Now Open the RKBatchTool (unzipped folder). It should now show either a pink or green button. If it is pink, you have to perform steps 2-4 again.7.-If the dot is green, the tool has detected the X5. Click the three dots above the button (the upper right) and select the appropriate Img file from the firmware folder.8.- Press down the restore button. The upgrade is now done. When finished you should see a message stating that the upgrade was successful.9.- The X5 should then relaunch. This will take a while so please be patient and do not unplug the power supply until it does!(I personally "translated" some of the instructions above into easier to understand English.) Not sure why but when it was shipped from China, they picked a box with the EU style power adaptor. This item takes a 5V, 3000mA output plug with a somewhat hard to find male end. Ordered a converter for this today. Hopefully it will still work.
